Violet skipped along the forest edge, stopping every few moments to pick violet flowers and leaves, and popping them in her basket. As she reached the field that lined the opposite side of the forest from where she started, she could see large mounds of purple. She had grown curious along the way, as she could see them from a distance. She loved Violets, but she also loved purple. And so she had to see what had caught her eyes.
She lept across the field and as she made her way towards the striking mounds if purple, the lovely scent of the purple flower stalks that made up the mounds, floated around Violet. Instantly she fell in love with the fragrance, and decided to pick as many as her hands could hold. She accumulated two large bundles, and with her basket full of violet flower and leaves, she began to head back to her forest cottage, dreaming of what she'd make.......But then, before her a puff of purple smoke, and a Flower Nymph was suddenly before her, a crown of the very flowers she had just picked, on the Nymphs head
"I am Lavender", she said in a confident tone, "and those are my flowers you have there," the Nymph finished.
"Why I'm sorry Lavender, I had no idea," Violet said innocently. "Can I offer you a trade of half my Violet flower and leaves, for your lovely flowers? " She asked with a smile on her face. "And I'm Violet by the way."
Lavender bent over to smell the fresh picked Violets. "Mmmm those smell lovely! I think that sounds like a fine offer," she said as a smile crept across her face, and she held out her hand for Violet to shake. Violet shook her hand, and Lavender held out her leather satchel for Violet to fill with her flowers and leaves as promised.
"Well until next time," Lavender said as she waved to Violet
Violet replied "Yes, until next time Lavender," as she filled the now empty half of her basket with the lavender she picked, and then skipped away to create magic with her fresh flowers.
It's not a secret I love Violets, it is my middle namesake after-all. Especially the leaves, they are cooling, soothing, sweet, and green smelling, and best of all they contain Methyl salicylate, the methyl ester of salicylic acid. The small amount of this compound not only contributes to the fragrance, but it's gentle exfoliating, and cooling properties for skin are wonderful. I've created a Violet Leaf and Flower Glycerite, and a pure extraction of the leaves for this Whipped Cleansing Balm. I've added my handcrafted Orris Root (Iris Rhizome) extract, to add a scent reminiscent of the floral scent of the Violet Flower. Iris Root is known to improve skin texture and elasticity, by helping to regulate hydration, while also smelling of lovely Violets! Because I love what it does for my skin, I've added just a bit of my Elderflower extract. To add antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory benefits, I've added my handcrafted White Lavender extract. My favorite Plum Seed Oil, which smells delicious, and feels amazing on skin, is paired with skin nourishing Almond Butter, which helps to break down even waterproof make-up, without stripping skin, while imparting a silky, soft skin. Using an Ecocertified, natural olive derived emulsifier, I've combined the plant butters, oils, and extracts with White Lavender and White Artemisia Hydrosol Co-distillation. For ease of rinsing, I've included a small amount of anatural surfacants (soap, lather!). This very rich Whipped Cleansing Balm removes the days make up and grime like an oil based cleanser, but rinses away cleanly, without stripping skin, or leaving a film behind. It leaves your skin shockingly smooth and clean!
